Something Beautiful

I think that fires are pretty sweet! The flames look really cool when they're burning. The orange color is really magnificent. A fire can serve a good purpose or a bad purpose. I think that most people think that they tend to be for the worse. Yes, they are dangerous, but how cool is it when the mountain catches on fire, and the sky has a orange hue to it?! The look of the flames is so awesome! It's interesting to think that a fire can do so much. It quickly increases the amount of space it destroys. They are so fast, and steadily taking over. I like to just sit and watch the flames. If you do look close enough you can see that the flames are a bit see- through. The color is all different shades. It's fun to sit and watch them, and roast marshmellows over.

Family Vacation

Last year my family went to the East; all the way to Palmyra, New York. We visited over 10 states and even Canada. We went on the trail the LDS Pioneers took in the early 1800's. We stopped at all the locations where the pioneers made history. We rode in the car and broke up the driving into two different days. Our first offical stop was Nauvoo, Illinois. Then to New York and around to Canada. There we went to the biggest indoor water park in Canada, and also to Niagra Falls.
My favorite place to visit was Amish Country, Ohio. We had only planned on staying one night, but we loved it so much we stayed two; would've stayed longer if there was room in the Amish House we were staying in. We got to met one of the Amish families that was out drying the oats they grew. They are so cool! They have a restrictive religion, but yet it keeps you sheltered from us "Englischers" and our ways. :) I met a boy who was 14 years old, his name was Oris. The Amish are so nice. Everybody should have the chance to go an visit these people.

As a child, my parents always read a bedtime story. We always got to choose. We read picture books. It is a continuing tradition in my family to read lots of books. My great- grandma loved all types of literature. Up until the day she died she devoured books. Thus, it is very important to read and to be read to in my family. Now that we are older, we don't do much reading out loud. However, sometimes we'll start a new chapter book. The last one that we read together was "The Chronicles of Narnia."
I think that it is really important to be introduced to a wide variety of books at a young age. The older you get; the less time you have. Finding time to do the things you like is easier though. If you know a good book and the genre you like, you'll find the time! It's important to read! It can take you anywhere at any time. Books give you insight, information, knowledge and a sense of culture. Having these can be vital. Reading is a good way to be self- entertained.

Best book

My favorite book is "A Light to my Path", by Lynn Austin. It's based in the time of the Civil War, and is about a slave girl, who works as a chambermaid in the Master's house. She likes the other slave that works in the barn, with the horses. She loses faith of them being together when he shows no affection towards her. But Grady, really does like her back. He hates whites because of what that did to him and tore his family apart. Eventually, they do "jump the broom" (get married) right before Grady is sent off to dig holes for the South Confederates. Meanwhile, his wife has a child and both don't know if they will ever see each other again. Grady runs and gets his freedom. When the war ends, it takes them a whole two years to find each other again.

I really like this book because it teaches you about the Civil War and what the slaves really went through. It's really intense, and you don't know for sure what is going to happen next. I enjoy reading historical fiction, and this book gave me real insight. It's book three in a series, but the other books aren't about Christine and Grady. They do mention their names in the other books, but they're about Grady's mom and Christine's cousin. Reading has always been a passion for me, and this book increased my appreciation for authors even more.

SUPERPOWER!

If I could have a superpower it would be to be able to be good at anything I tried. I would like this because I could be able to play any sport, instrument, make really good friends and not feel like an idiot when I didn't accomplish what I wanted to.
However, this would have a lot of downfalls. Like what would I do in my spare time; which I would have a lot of. I wouldn't have to practice anything, and wouldn't learn much either. My homework would take no time at all- which might be nice! :) Lots of people might not want to be my friend, they might feel I'm was too good for them, and I would be. Nobody wants to have a friend that is good at everything! They couldn't go to you and tell you about their amazing catch in football, or how they just memorized a song on the piano. They would compare themselves to me, and feel insecure and unimportant.
Often times; I wish that I could change things and have a different outcome. Sooner or later, you'll find out that the outcome that did happen was for the better good. I'm grateful that we don't have superpowers, people might turn out to be greedy and want more and better powers. That wouldn't be good either.
I'm grateful for who I am, and for the other people around me too.
